WILD SIGNS C WYATT SMITH
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed free agent center Wyatt Smith to a one-year contract
Smith, 29 (2/13/77), split last season between the NHLs New York Islanders and the American Hockey Leagues Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He tied a career-high with 42 NHL games played, notching eight assists. He totaled 29 points (13-16=29) in 39 games with Bridgeport.
The 5-foot-11, 198-pound native of Thief River Falls, Minn., was a member of Milwaukees 2004 Calder Cup championship team along with Aeros defenseman Curtis Murphy. Smith scored the Cup-clinching goal in Game 4.
Smith has 125 games of NHL experience with the Islanders, Nashville and Phoenix, with 23 points (7-16=23). In 351 AHL games spanning seven seasons, Smith has put up 250 points (107-143=250).
Smith starred at the University of Minnesota for four seasons, racking up 129 points (67-62=129) in 152 games.
