AEROS DEFEAT SAN ANTONIO 3-1 AT TOYOTA CENTER

HOUSTON, Texas – The Houston Aeros defeated the San Antonio Rampage 3-1 in front of 5,785 fans at Toyota Center Sunday afternoon. This game marks the third of three straight Aeros (2-4-1-0) games against San Antonio (4-3-0-2), Houston finishing 2-1 in the series, including a shootout-win eight days ago.

The Aeros were led by LW Aaron Voros who netted two goals in the contest. Houston point-leader D Erik Reitz also tallied a goal and an assist in the game for his third multi-point game of the season. The Rampage’s D Keith Yandle scored the team’s lone goal, a power-play marker. Houston’s G Barry Brust stopped 37 of 38 shots on net earning him the win as San Antonio net-minder David Aebischer blocked 15 of 17 shots while in goal. The Aeros spent some time in the box with 17 penalties for 37 minutes allowing for 15 San Antonio power-plays. The Aeros went 0-for-6 with the man-advantage.

Game Summary

The first period went scoreless as Houston took four shots on net and the Rampage had ten. The Aeros had three penalties for six minutes as San Antonio had two penalties for four.

After burning off a couple early Rampage power-plays Houston got on the board first as Voros netted the puck at 6:43 in the second period, his second goal of the season. C Adrian Foster and D Paul Albers added the assists. The Aeros successfully killed off two more penalties before taking a 2-0 lead when Reitz added a short-handed goal at 16:57 in the period. RW Joel Ward and C Morten Madsen added the helpers as the teams took to the locker rooms with Houston up 2-0.

Yandle netted the Rampages lone goal, a power-play marker at 11:57 in the third and was assisted by C Joel Perrault and C Yanick Lehoux. Houston killed off five penalties including a couple five-on-three situations. Down 2-1, San Antonio pulled their net-minder with just over a minute remaining and Voros took advantage by dumping in his second goal of the game from the blue line. Reitz added the lone assist. The Aeros fought through a late penalty and earned the team’s first regulation-win of the season.

The Aeros play again at home on Tuesday night as the team hosts Syracuse for the first time this season. Don't miss out on action as the teams are tied 3-3 all-time.
