LW JEAN-GUY TRUDEL NAMED AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

By:
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - Houston Aeros left winger Jean-Guy Trudel (zhawn-gee TROO-dehl) was named the Sher-Wood American Hockey League Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, October 20. In three games, Trudel collected three goals and five assists for eight points, as the Aeros maintained the AHL’s only perfect record at 5-0-0.

On Friday, Trudel’s 27th birthday, he celebrated with a power play goal and an assist on RW Kyle Wanvig’s game-winning goal for the Aeros 4-2 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins. The next night, he scored another goal and had three assists in the Aeros 5-4 overtime win at Cincinnati. His goal knotted the score at four midway through the third period and then, again, assisted on defenseman Erik Reitz’s game-winning goal in overtime. On Sunday, Trudel decided that assisting on the deciding goal wasn’t enough, so he scored the game-winner with 3:35 remaining in Houston’s 4-3 win over the Mighty Ducks.

A native of Sudbury, Ont., Trudel made his AHL debut with Springfield in 1999-2000 and is the highest-scoring player in the AHL since that time, with 93 goals and 157 assists for 250 points in 233 games. He skated in the AHL All-Star Game in each of the last three seasons, and was named a First Team AHL All-Star in 2001 and a Second Team All-Star in 2000 and 2002. He currently leads the Aeros in goals and points, is tied for the team lead with a plus/minus of +5 and ranks second in assists. Trudel also ranks third in the league in points.

In recognition of his achievement, Trudel will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Houston Junior Aeros hockey association in Trudel’s name.

Houston looks to extend its club record 5-0-0 start on Wednesday in Cleveland before traveling to Grand Rapids on Thursday. Game time is 6:00 PM both nights.
