HOUSTON - Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed restricted free agent Brad Staubitz to a two-year contract.
Staubitz, 25 (7/28/84), was acquired by Minnesota from the San Jose Sharks yesterday in exchange for a fifth round pick (#129) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The right wing recorded six points (3-3=6) and 110 penalty minutes (PIM) in 47 games with San Jose in 2009-10, his first full season in the NHL.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta split the 2008-09 campaign between San Jose and the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League (AHL). He recorded three points (1-2=3) and 76 PIM in 35 games with San Jose and tallied five assists and 130 PIM with Worcester. Staubitz has totaled nine points (4-5=9) and 186 PIM in 82 career NHL games with San Jose. He was originally signed as a free agent by the Sharks on Sept. 19, 2005.
Minnesota currently owns seven picks in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, including the ninth selection in the first round and four of the first 69 overall picks (#9, 39, 56, 69, 99, 159, and 189).
