PROSPECTS CAMP INTERVIEW - JUSTIN FALK

Prospects Camp Interview - Justin Falk

Since you left Houston for the summer, what have you been doing?
“Since I left Houston, I relaxed a little bit, had to fly home for a funeral unfortunately. I came back to Minny for a few meetings and testing and then have been back home, starting with some training and golfing a little bit here and there and been on the lake trying to enjoy summer. “

What type of training?
“Five days a week I travel to Winnipeg with a few guys. Right now it’s basically weights, no on ice yet. I’m just trying to get stronger and hopefully get on the ice and feel a lot faster and better.”

What part of your game are you trying to improve?

“I got a good taste of what it’s like to play and what I have to be like up here and you can always get faster and stronger. I really want to get a lot stronger this year to be able to handle the good players of the NHL to earn a spot and get some time to showcase myself here. Hopefully things will go well here the rest of summer, I can stay healthy and things will go well in camp.”

How much has the strength training helped your golf game?
“As a matter of fact I’m more of a finesse golfer. I’ll rear back and let her fly but my game is more about 100 yards and in. Soft touch around the greens, I find my hands on the course I just have to find them on the ice I guess.”

What do you want to get out of this week?
“It’s my fourth year here so there’s no nervousness or shock at anything they throw at us. Just kind of jump start my ice here to carry the rest of summer and start feeling good on the ice and get back going.”

Being your fourth year do you take kind of a leadership role for some of the guys in their first camp?
“You just kind of have to talk to them earlier on because they’re a little shy and timid in their first camp. It takes a little bit for them to open up so just help them feel comfortable so they can perform their best because one day they are most likely going to be a teammate of yours.”

What are your plans for the rest of summer?
“I’m getting married in a couple weeks, August 1st, so I’ll be doing that, prepping for that with a short honeymoon after to get away before camp really jumps on us in a hurry. Just get back home, get in the groove of things with training and enjoy the weekends, count them down and get ready for camp.

How much time in minutes have you spent planning the wedding?

“As a matter of fact I’m in charge of a few things, so its probably hours. Prepping a few things that maybe for them would take minutes but for me I’m really trying to do my role and do well.”

Where is the honeymoon?
“Mayan Riviera, she’s in charge of that one too. I’ve never been somewhere south to some resort so this is a first for me. Cross our fingers the hurricanes stay out of the way.”
