HOUSTON --- The Houston Fire Department and Houston Police Departmernt recently squared off on the ice at Toyota Center following a Houston Aeros game in the annual Guns vs. Hoses match. The teams battled to extra time and HFD's Dr. David Persse bagged the winner in a sudden death shootout.
It was the largest attended exhibition game in Toyota Center history. Well over 1,000 spectators packed the West Club to catch the game on Dec. 26 after the Aeros 4-3 in a shootout.
The Houston Police team (the Enforcers), played the first 21 seconds of the game one man down in honor of fallen teammate/officer Phil Yochum. Despite that, they lit the lamp early in the game on a goal from Larry Baimbridge.
The Firemen tied it in the second with a solo shot from Matt Holloway. The teams continued to match goals into the third period. Steve “Special” Hendry put in a go-ahead tally for the Enforcers with five minutes remaining in the contest. However, with a minute remaining, HFD’s Clayton Crabtree found the net to tie the game and send it into the shootout.
