Aaron Boogaard one of 12 players taken by Wild; Dallas selects 10 in NHL Draft

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild selected eight players during the second day of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft in Raleigh, North Carolina: forward Ryan Jones (4th round, 111th overall), left wing Patrick Bordeleau (4th round, 114th overall), right wing Julien Sprunger (4th round, 117th overall), defenseman Jean-Claude Sawyer (5th round, 161st overall), right wing Aaron Boogaard (6th round, 175th overall), right wing Jean-Michel Rizk (pronounced Ritzk) (7th round, 195th overall), goaltender Anton Khudobin (pronounced Coo-doh-bin) (7th round, 206th overall) and center Kyle Wilson (9th round, 272nd overall).


Boogaard (pictured) is the younger brother of Aeros winger Derek Boogaard, who was drafted by the Wild in the 8th round (202nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.


Minnesota selected a total of 12 players (eight forwards, three defenseman and one goaltender) during the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, the most in franchise history. The club selected defenseman A.J. Thelen (1st round, 12th overall), left wing Roman Voloshenko (2nd round, 42nd overall), left wing Peter Olvecky (3rd round, 78th overall) and defenseman Clayton Stoner (3rd round, 79th overall) on day one of this year’s draft.



Frisco, Texas – The Dallas Stars selected five more players on Sunday in rounds four – nine of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft at RBC Center in Raleigh, NC. Overall, the team added 10 new prospects to the organization at the draft this weekend.


Sunday’s selections for the club included: right wing Fredrik Naslund of Vasteras from Sweden (4th round, 104th overall), defenseman Trevor Ludwig of the Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League (6th round, 183rd overall), Sergei Kukushin of Minsk Jr. from Belarus (7th round, 218th overall), Lukas Vomela of Ceske Budejovice from Czech Republic (8th round, 248th overall) and Matt McKnight of Camrose of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (9th round, 280th overall).
