HOUSTON AEROS HOLD PB&J DRIVE FOR HOMELESS ON FRIDAY
Team Concludes MOVEMBER This Week
Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros are set to help the homeless this weekend when the team hosts its Peanut Butter and Jelly community drive this Friday. The team will also conclude its month-long fundraiser “MOVEMBER” on Friday.
As part of Girl Scout Night, the team will be working with SEARCH Homeless Services to collect jars of peanut butter and jelly. Any Girl Scout that donates peanut butter or jelly will earn a patch. For each that makes a donation, the Aeros will reward them with two free tickets to a select future home game. Representatives from SEARCH Homeless will be on the concourse by section 107 to help collect the donations.
Friday concludes the Aeros month-long fundraiser MOVEMBER. The team and staff members have been growing moustaches throughout the month of November to promote awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men. The team has partnered with a local prostate cancer prevention organization called Blue Cure (www.blueCure.org). On Friday night, there will be a table on the concourse outside of section 107, where fans may purchase $10 mystery pucks, signed by one of the Houston Aeros.
Numerous hockey players and thousands of men around the world become “Mo Bros” by participating in Movember each November. Mo Bros try to “groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery” by raising funds for their efforts. Participants start on Nov. 1 with clean-shaven faces to raise awareness by prompting conversations about the often ignored issue of men’s health.
Fans can donate at http://us.movember.com/mospace/2992657 either directly to a member of the Aeros front office staff or to the players through the “Donate to Team” button. The team has been posting weekly moustache progress photos and updates on www.aeros.com and the team’s social media channels.
Funds raised in the U.S. support prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men, through programs run directly by Movember and its men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG. In 2011, over 854,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas joined the cause and raised $126.3 million. All funds support a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in line with Movember’s strategic goals in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.
Houston continues a three-game home stand with Oklahoma City on Thursday and Friday versus Oklahoma City at 7:05 p.m. at Toyota Center. The Aeros will host Girl Scout Night on Friday and celebrate the final day of Movember. The team will also host a Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive. Every fan that brings a jar of peanut butter or jelly, will receive two free tickets to a select future Aeros home game. The Girl Scouts are running the donation program to benefit the homeless.
