Mr. Hockey ® coming October 8
The buzz about the October 7 home opener will be extended 24 hours, as “Mr. Hockey” ® Gordie Howe will be in attendance on Sunday, Oct. 8.

Howe’s No. 9 banner, originally raised at Compaq Center late in the 2002-03 season, will go to the Toyota Center rafters before the game. Howe is also scheduled to meet with some amateur hockey players during the afternoon.

Call 713.974.PUCK to find out how you can watch the game with Mr. Hockey ®.

Couple of former Aeros land assistant jobs
Cam Stewart, recently named Aeros assistant coach and advisor to the front office, was the first of three Aeros from the 1998-99 Turner Cup team who landed assistant jobs in the last two weeks.

First was Trent Cull, who left former Aeros coach/general manager Dave Barr’s Guelph Storm junior team to join Syracuse as an assistant coach. The Crunch recently promoted Gary Agnew from the assistant position to become head coach.

Cull beat out Lane Lambert for that job, but Lambert rebounded quickly, landing an assistant position with Milwaukee. That spot was vacated when Todd Richards was named Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s head coach.

    Interns needed
The Aeros are in search of ticket marketing interns for the fall. Our goal is to maintain an intern program that is beneficial to both the student and the organization. We challenge our interns to work hard and make a contribution to the success of the organization. By treating our interns the same as every other member of our staff, we help ensure their ultimate success in the competitive world of professional sports. Interns completing the program will have practical experience that will give them a competitive advantage over other applicants when applying for positions in the industry. This fact should not be overlooked as 65% of all positions in the sports industry are in tickets sales.

Aeros ticket interns will be trained on creating marketing plans, qualifying customers, implementing sales techniques and methods for closing sales. Goals will be set and a game plan will be established to help interns achieve and surpass those goals. The intern program is designed to focus on advance sales in a fun and exciting environment.

    Trivia time
Congratulations to Wade for correctly answering that former Aero Tom Chorske played at Minnesota along with new Wilkes-Barre/Scranton head coach Todd Richards. Wade gladly donated his prize – two skating passes at Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center – to Houston Aeros Charities.

This week’s prize is an Aeros media guide – coming in October. Question is…What number did “Mr. Hockey” ® Gordie Howe wear when he made his NHL debut? Send answers to qanda@aeros.com.

That’s it, Aeros fans. We’ll see you again next time!
