94-95 AEROS FREER, CONROY, TOWNSHEND TO BE HONORED OPENING NIGHT

HOUSTON, Texas – The Houston Aeros will honor members of their inaugural 1994-95 International Hockey League team when they open the season on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Toyota Center at 7:35 p.m. against Grand Rapids. Mark Freer (pictured), the Aeros’ all-time leader in every major offensive category, will return along with Al Conroy and Graeme Townshend. The trio will partake in the ceremonial puck drop and will sign autographs during the first intermission.

The first 3,000 fans will also receive Aeros camouflage hats as part of the opening weekend festivities. Mr. Hockey ® Gordie Howe returns to Houston on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 5:05 p.m. when the Aeros take on the Iowa Stars. The first 5,000 fans at that game will receive a magnetic schedule.

Freer played six seasons for the IHL Aeros, winning a Turner Cup championship in 1999 as playoff Most Valuable Player. He’s the team’s all-time leader in games played (469), goals (132), assists (210), points (342), power play goals (38), shorthanded goals (11) and game-winning goals (21).

Conroy joined the Aeros late in the 1994-95 season from the Detroit Vipers and went on to play 161 games over two-plus seasons in Houston. A solid two-way player, Conroy totaled 116 points (42-74=116) and 322 penalty minutes.

Townshend played parts of four seasons in Houston, with 108 points (61-47=108) and 369 penalty minutes in 209 games. He was the IHL’s Man of the Year in 1995-96.

Tickets for all regular season games will go on sale in late September. But you can reserve your priority group seating for Opening Weekend by calling 713.974.PUCK.
