AEROS WEEKLY REPORT

Coming Attractions:

Houston begins the final leg of its five-game road trip with the first of back-to-back games at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins spoiled the Aeros’ home opener October 7 with a 3-1 victory at Toyota Center.

SAT, at GR, 6 p.m.

Houston won both its games in Grand Rapids last season, and it has never won three straight at Van Andel Arena. The Aeros are 12-15-2-0 all-time in Grand Rapids, and 27-25-7-2 overall against the Griffins. Houston has lost two straight overall in the series – it hasn’t lost three straight in regulation to Grand Rapids since a four-game slide from January 28-March 23, 2003.

Next homestand begins Oct. 27!

The Aeros begin a four-game homestand on Friday, Oct. 27 against Hamilton in a 2003 Calder Cup Finals rematch. It’s 80’s Night, presented by KHPT, 106.9 The Point. “The Lost Boys” 80’s cover band will perform.

Saturday, Oct. 28 is Goalie Mask night against Peoria, and also Breast Cancer Awareness Night.

The homestand wraps up on Friday, Nov. 3, as the Toronto Marlies make their only trip to Houston this season. The first 3,000 fans will receive a “Happy Feet” movie poster.

    Sponsorship packets for the 12th Annual Houston Aeros Golf Classic are now available. The tournament, benefiting Houston Aeros Charities and Elves & More, is set for Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Wildcat Golf Club at 12000 Almeda.

    Thursday: Chris Conner snapped a tie with a breakaway goal midway through the third period, former Aero Junior Lessard added an empty-netter and Dan Ellis made 29 saves, as the Iowa Stars remained perfect on the season with a 3-1 victory over Houston at Wells Fargo Arena. Mark Ardelan added a 5-on-3 goal for Iowa (3-0-0-0), which played its home opener. The Stars host the Aeros again on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

    Wyatt Smith scored a power play goal and Josh Harding made 24 stops for Houston.

    Saturday: Joel Lundqvist snapped a tie midway through the third period, leading the Iowa Stars to a 4-3 victory over the Houston Aeros at Wells Fargo Arena. Vojtech Polak, Mike Green and Loui Eriksson each scored first period goals as the Stars moved to 4-0-0-0.

    Curtis Murphy and rookies Danny Irmen and Benoit Pouliot scored a goal apiece and Steve Shields made nine stops before being pulled in his Aeros debut.

    Sunday: Reigning AHL goal champion Donald MacLean scored two goals in regulation and added a score in the shootout, as the San Antonio Rampage rallied from two goals down to defeat the Houston Aeros 5-4 at AT&T Center to finish off one of the longest days in Aeros team history. Yanick Lehoux added a goal and three assists, Logan Stephenson also scored and Phil Sauve made 28 saves as San Antonio (2-3-0-0) snapped a three-game skid.

    Wyatt Smith and Josh Olson scored 40 seconds apart midway through the second period, and rookies Ryan Hamilton and Alex Leavitt scored their first pro goals for Houston (0-4-0-1), which picked up its first point of the season. Josh Harding made 22 stops.
