SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. Minnesota Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled RW Kyle Wanvig from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL), the teams primary development affiliate.
Wanvig, 22 (1/29/81), recorded 16 points (9-7=16) in 28 games with the Aeros this season. He ranked first on the team in game winning goals (4), tied for first in goals and power play goals (3) and third in penalty minutes (62) and points. The 6-foot-2, 219-pound forward tallied one goal and 13 penalty minutes in seven games with Minnesota last season. Wanvig made his NHL debut on November 25, 2002 against Vancouver and registered his first career NHL goal on December 17, 2002 against Edmonton.
The Calgary, Alberta-native was selected by Minnesota in the second round (36th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
He will join the team in Edmonton today and wear jersey number 27.
