HOUSTON ENDS SLIDE WITH 3-1 WIN OVER QUAD CITY FLAMES

HOUSTON, Texas – The Houston Aeros ended their five-game winless-streak with a 3-1 victory over the Quad City Flames Saturday night in front of 6,268 fans at Toyota Center. The Aeros (23-18-2-3) will take to the road for a six-game trip including one visiting Quad City (22-20-2-5) on Wednesday.

Houston center Marco Rosa netted the game-winning goal and six other Aeros recorded one point each. Flames C Krys Kolanos marked the team’s only goal in the game. Aeros’ goaltender Barry Brust blocked 30 of 31 shots on net in the win. Matt Keetley stopped 21 of 23 shots in the loss and Quad City allowed a short-handed empty-net goal. Quad City failed to convert on six man-advantage opportunities while the Aeros scored on one of four chances.

The Aeros got on the board first as RW Peter Olvecky netted a power-play goal for the club at 16:47. D Brandon Rogers and C Steve Kelly earned the assist for the early lead. Quad City outshot the Aeros 8-7 in the period.

The second frame was held scoreless. Both teams recorded 12 shots on net. The Flames failed to convert on two power-play chances as the Aeros missed on their one opportunity in the period.

After Houston held the Flames scoreless for 57:47 of the game Quad City saved the shutout as Kolanos potted the game-tying goal. RW Grant Stevenson earned the assists on the marker. Houston refused to let this game head into overtime where the team was unsuccessful last night and Rosa netted the eventual game-winning goal at 18:52 in the third period. C Adrian Foster kept his point-streak alive with the first assist on Rosa’s goal and D Paul Albers earned the second assist. The Flames pulled Keetley late in the game while the team was on the power-play putting them at a 6-4 man-advantage but RW Joel Ward netted an insurance goal with less than one second remaining for the 3-1 win.

The Houston Aeros will be on the road until February 15 when the team hosts the Iowa Stars. The Aeros have a Sweetheart Special running in honor of Valentine’s Day, click here to learn more. In the mean time a jersey auction will begin on Monday at 11 a.m. which features the old-style white Aeros jersey which was worn last weekend. The auction will be up for only a limited time so check back frequently.

Notes:
- The Aeros finished their seven-game homestand with a record of 2-3-1-1. They now embark on a six-game road trip in which they will play six games in nine nights in five different cities.
- For the second straight night, the Aeros wore their annual Houston Aeros Charities jerseys that will be auctioned off at the end of the season.
- Adrian Foster extended his point-streak to three games scoring four points (2-2=4) in that stretch.
