AEROS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN MANITOBA, LOSE 5-3

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – The Houston Aeros scored first, fell behind quickly and couldn’t complete a comeback bid to lose 5-3 in Manitoba Saturday night. Houston came within one goal with less than three minutes remaining before an empty netter put the Aeros at 4-2-0-0 on the season. The Aeros travel to Toronto for a 3 p.m. CDT. game Sunday against the Marlies in hopes of taking one game out of the three-in-three weekend. Sunday's game can be viewed on AHLLIVE.com or heard on 1070-AM KNTH.

GAMESHEET

Houston got on the board first when Krys Kolanos stuffed in a power-play goal with a wrap-around from behind the net at 10:03 in the first period. Marco Rosa and Brandon Rogers recorded the two assists for the only goal of the opening frame. Aeros’ goaltender Barry Brust knocked aside all six shots faced.

Manitoba took over the second period tallying two goals only 22 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead. The Moose finished a 4-0 second-period run at 16:22 of the frame. The Aeros answered with Dane Crowley scoring his second goal of the season with a slap shot from the top of the faceoff circle at 17:01 in the period. The Aeros went into the second intermission with only a 4-2 deficit after allowing four goals on 15 shots in the period.

The teams battled through the third period with Manitoba fighting off the Aeros attempts to come back until Kevin Constantine pulled Brust with 3:33 remaining in the game. Rosa, after 29 seconds of an empty-net, reeled in the puck coming back from directly in front of the crease and fired it past a dazed Corey Schneider to make the score 4-3. The puck had been centered by Clayton Stoner to Peter Olvecky who had settled directly in front of the crease and been knocked into Schneider before Rosa’s shot. The Moose took advantage of the late empty-net as Darryl Bootland put in his second goal of the night closing the 5-3 game.

Notes:
- After winning seven straight games against the Moose, the Aeros lost the last two marking the second time since joining the AHL that Houston has not earned a point in Manitoba. The last time was 2004-05 when the Aeros went 0-4 against Manitoba that season.
- Krys Kolanos extended his goal-scoring streak to four games with his first period marker. He has five goals in four games played with the Aeros.
- Houston went 1-6 on power-plays Saturday night. The Aeros have tallied power-play goals in four of their first six games. The Aeros have an overall conversion rate of 20% with six goals on 30 chances tying the team for seventh in the AHL.
- The Aeros were out-shot 26-24 Saturday night. Houston has been out-shot in five of the first six games of the season with 174 shots-against and 157 shots-for.
