AEROS END ROAD TRIP WITH 3-1 WIN OVER LAKE ERIE

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Houston Aeros ended a three-game losing streak with a convincing 3-1 win over the Lake Erie Monsters Friday night at Quicken Loans Arena. Goaltender Barry Brust stopped 30 of 31 shots in net and Maxim Noreau tallied the game-winning goal as the Aeros improved their record to 8-7-0-0. Aeros' forwards Corey Locke and Jesse Schultz each recorded two assists in the win, and Tom Fritsche scored the lone goal for the Monsters who fell to 5-7-0-1. Houston finished their five-game road trip with two wins and will head home for a game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Sunday at Toyota Center at 4:05 p.m. CST. Houston pressured the Monsters early in the first period and out shot Lake Erie 13-8 in the period. Ryan Hamilton gave the Aeros a 1-0 lead on the team’s last shot of the opening period at the 19:01 mark. Hamilton came down the left wing boards, left a drop pass for Corey Locke who feathered a return pass back to Hamilton and he backhanded the puck past Monsters’ goaltender Tyler Weiman. The Aeros killed two penalties in the opening period and finished 0-for-1 on the power play.

At the 11:05 mark of the second, both Chris Mueller and Nathan Smith went to the penalty box for the Monsters giving the Aeros a two-man advantage. Noreau scored on a one-timer blast on a pass from Locke on the ensuing five-on-three to make it 2-0. Only 37 seconds later, and with the Aeros on a five-on-four advantage, Marco Rosa buried a rebound off the back boards to give the Aeros a three-goal lead. The Monsters out shot Houston 11-5 in the period, but the two power play goals gave the visitors a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission.

Fritsche broke up Brust’s bid for a shutout just 3:13 into the final period when he banged in a rebound in a scrum in front of the net. The goal ended the Aeros shutout streak against the Monsters that lasted 202:43 dating back to last season. Houston held on killing two Monsters’ power plays in the final period to win 3-1 and end their three-game losing streak.

Notes:
- Houston has scored the first goal in the last four contests against the Monsters. Lake Erie only scored first in the opening game of the series last season.
- The Aeros shutout streak against the Monsters ended with Tom Fritsche’s goal at the 3:13 mark of the third period. Houston hadn’t given up a goal to the Monsters’ for 202:43 dating back to last season. Lake Erie has only scored one goal against the Aeros in three home games all-time.
- Houston remained undefeated against the Monsters going 5-0-0-0 and outscoring Lake Erie 11-4 in the series.
- Center Corey Locke continued his scoring prowess against the Monsters with his two helpers. He now has seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in nine games played against the Monsters in his career.
- Goaltender Barry Brust has stopped 89 of 93 shots in his last three games for a .957 save percentage. He is 2-1-0-0 in his last three games.
