ROCHESTER DEFEATS AEROS 2-1 IN SHOOTOUT

HOUSTON, Texas – The Rochester Americans earned their first road win this season in a 2-1 shootout victory over the Houston Aeros Wednesday night. After two periods of play the game was tied 1-1 but Rochester’s net-minder Mike Brodeur knocked aside 3-of-4 Aeros shootout attempts for the win. The Aeros (11-10-1-3) come back to Toyota Center tomorrow night for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Quad City Flames, the first meeting with the West Division opponent.

Rochester got on the board first with an even-strength goal late in the opening period. Dan Collins netted his fourth goal of the season with 2:30 remaining in the first with Michael Duco and David Brine earning the assists. Rochester out-shot the Aeros 9-8 in the frame and led 1-0 heading into the first intermission. Houston couldn’t convert on two power-play chances as the Americans went 0-for-1 on the man-advantage.

Houston tied things up with Maxim Noreau tallying a power-play goal at 8:45 in the second frame. Rookie Mike Hamilton earned his first point as an Aero with an assist on the goal and Corey Locke recorded the second-assist. The Aeros held Rochester to only five shots in the period to Houston’s 13. Through two periods of play the Aeros were 1-for-6 on the power-play for a 1-1 tie heading into the second intermission.

A scoreless third period, where the Aeros provided four power-play chances to the American, sent the contest into overtime. The extra session led to three shots from Rochester and only one from the Aeros but again without score. The 1-1 game went into a shootout for the third time this season. The Rochester shooters proved too much as they recorded three goals in as many attempts to the Aeros one goal in four attempts for a 2-1 victory for Rochester.

During the holiday season Houston Aeros Charities (HAC) encourage fans to help the less fortunate. This Saturday, during the 7:35 p.m. game against the Hershey Bears, HAC is hosting their annual Teddy Toss in which fans throw teddy bears onto the ice after the Aeros first goal. All donated bears will go towards the Salvation Army's annual toy drive. Bo's Place will also be on hand selling teddy bears if you forget yours.

Notes:
- Maxim Noreau’s second period power-play goal moved him to eight goals on the season, sixth on the man-advantage. Noreau now leads all defensemen in the league in each category, goals and power-play goals. Noreau also leads all Aeros in power-play goals
- Corey Locke’s on Noreau’s power-play tally gives him his seventh power-play assist this season for the team lead. Locke has ten points (3-7=10) on the man-advantage.
- Houston has played 13 games against the North Division with a record of 3-8-0-2. The first period has been low scoring with only ten total goals with Houston scoring four to their opponents’ six. Houston leads in the second period by out-scoring the opponent 14-13 and have been out-scored 17-9 in the third against the North.
