HOUSTON, Texas – On Saturday, January 10th 2009 the Houston Aeros partnered with the Miss Southeast Texas Pageant to crown two new representatives of the Miss America Organization. Amanda Miller, the 2009 Miss Southeast Texas, and Sterling Bishop, the 2009 Miss Teen Southeast Texas, both entered into the spotlight and won the hearts of the judges; which included two Houston Aeros staff members.

Dorsey McLeroy, VP of Administration and CFO, as well as Pamela Snyder, Marketing Coordinator, spent time searching for the right fit for the 2009 title holders. The Houston Aeros have partnered with this branch of the organization and its director, Duc Nguyen, for two years and have founded a lasting partnership and support system. The Miss Southeast Texas branch links directly to the Miss Texas organization as well as the Miss Teen Texas organization.

"It was an honor and pleasure to help judge the Miss Southeast Texas 2009 Pageant and to have the Aeros take such an important role in it's production,” said McLeroy. “I was very impressed with each and every contestant and wish them all the best in the upcoming year. In a world where so much negative news is reported daily we lose sight that the majority of today's young people are honest, hard working, passionate and caring individuals. It's great to see and know that our country is in the awesome hands of these young ladies who represent the leaders of tomorrow."

The Miss Southeast Texas Scholarship Pageant, held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Cy-Falls High School, is an official local preliminary pageant to the Miss Texas and the Miss America Scholarship Pageant.

Two panels of 7 judges scored both Teen and Miss contestants in 5 different categories: private interview (25%), talent (35%), lifestyle and fitness (15%) [Miss - swimsuit; Teen - aerobic wear], evening wear (20%), and onstage questioning (5%); the highest and lowest scores for each contestant in the separate categories will be dropped. The young ladies in both divisions with the highest overall score became the new title holders.

Miss Southeast Texas 2009 will receive over $5000.00 in cash scholarship, awards and gifts. She also has the opportunity of competing at the Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant in July 2009 in Fort Worth.

Miss Teen Southeast Texas 2009 will be awarded over $2000.00 in cash scholarship, awards, and gifts. She, too, will compete at the Miss Teen Texas Scholarship Pageant in July 2009 in Fort Worth.

Be sure to watch for the two bright title holders who may appear at Aeros games throughout the remainder of the season.
