BEAUDOIN EARNS HAT TRICK IN
AEROS 7-6 VICTORY OVER IOWA CHOPS

DES MOINES, Iowa – Matt Beaudoin recorded his first AHL hat trick in Houston Aeros 7-6 victory over Iowa Chops Saturday night. The win put Houston (25-21-1-8) into a tie for third place in the West Division with the Chicago Wolves, Sunday’s opponent. The Aeros host the Wolves at 5:05 p.m. at Toyota Center Sunday and tickets are still available by calling (866) GO-AEROS, online at AEROS.com or by stopping by the Toyota Center Box Office before the game.

Houston netminder, Nolan Schaefer stopped 25 of 31 shots faced with 25 shots-against in the last two periods. Houston also put 31 shots on net and converted on all four power-play opportunities. Iowa started David LeNeveu in net who was pulled in the second period in favor of Jean-Philippe Levasseur but returned for the final period. LeNeveu stopped 22 of 29 shots faced as Levasseur blocked both shots faced in the second frame. Houston killed off two-of-three penalty kills in the contest.

Beaudoin got the scoring started at 2:57 when he netted the puck for the early lead. He followed up with a power-play goal at 6:32, putting Houston up 2-0. Corey Locke earned assists on both goals and Kurtis Foster helped on the second marker. Iowa tied things up with a pair of goals from Eric Boguniecki and Eric Regan at 10:51 and 11:58 respectively. The Aeros took their two-goal lead back again with Jesse Schultz and Robbie Earl netting the puck at 17:44 and 19:03 respectively. Earl set Schultz up with his goal and vice versa. Benoit Pouliot also assisted Beaudoin to round out the first period.

The second period kicked off with Beaudoin earning his first AHL hat trick at 5:27 giving Houston a 5-2 lead. The hat trick was also the first for the Aeros this season. Maxim Noreau and Krys Kolanos earned the helpers on the power-play marker. Iowa brought the game within one with a pair of goals at 9:08 and 13:22 in the period from Drew Miller, on a power play, and Charlie Kronschnabel with an even-strength marker. The clubs took to the intermission with Houston carrying a 5-4 lead.

The third period provided just as many fireworks as Ryan Dingle tied the game up at five apiece only 3:49 into the final period. John Lammers netted another power-play goal, putting Houston at a perfect four-for-four on the man-advantage for the night. The four power-play goals were the most Houston has scored this season and the first time the club has been perfect on power-play chances in the 2008-09 campaign. At 11:26 in the period Justin Falk stole the puck below the goal line while forechecking and centered it to Bryan Lundbohm who chipped it in the net for a 7-5 lead and the eventual game-winning goal. T.J. Trevelyan made a game of it by bringing Iowa within one with 1:12 left to play when the club had an extra attacker on the ice. The Aeros had a couple close calls within the final minute but Schaefer knocked aside a few key shots to retain the 7-6 victory.
