HOUSTON AEROS FALL 3-1 IN SAN ANTONIO SATURDAY NIGHT

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Houston Aeros opened the scoring for the second night in a row but fell 3-1 to the San Antonio Rampage Saturday night at AT&T Center. Corey Locke recorded the team’s lone goal and Anton Khudobin earned his second start of the season for the Aeros (32-25-1-8) who remain second in the West Division. The club returns home tomorrow afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. contest against the Rockford IceHogs, who trail Houston by only one point.

GAME SHEET

Houston got on the board when Locke netted a power-play goal past Al Montoya, who stopped who stopped 21-of-22 Aeros' shots. Matt Beaudoin and Danny Irmen each earned assists on the Aeros only tally of the night at 7:13 of the first period. Jeff May tied the contest for the Rampage only 2:30 after the Aeros opening goal during a four-on-four situation to round out the scoring for the first period.

A hard hitting second period provided a few minor scuffles on the ice and the gloves were dropped by Irmen and Chad Kolarik. Each team posted four shots on net but none of which got past either goaltender. Houston had two power-play chances in the middle period to San Antonio’s one.

Nearly 45 minutes of scoreless hockey was played before San Antonio took a 2-1 lead when Garth Murray carried the puck near the left-win faceoff circle and slapped it past Khudobin on the short side of the net. The goal eventually proved to be the game winner but the Rampage added another before the contest was said and done. Khudobin was pulled from the net with about three minutes remaining in favor of an extra attacker but the Aeros couldn’t force the puck past Montoya, who nearly had a goal from his own crease. Montoya flicked the puck the length of the ice but narrowly missed Houston’s empty net. Wyatt Smith won a faceoff near center ice, sending the puck to Kevin Porter who knocked it just over Tomas Mojzis’ stick and into the open net for the 3-1 final.
