AEROS CONTINUE TRIP IN ROCKFORD ON THURSDAY

    CHICAGO - The Houston Aeros (17-15-2-1) dropped the first of three consecutive games Wednesday night, 5-1 to the Chicago Wolves (16-15-0-2) in front of 6,466 at Allstate Arena. J-M Daoust scored the lone goal for Houston in the third period and Anton Khudobin (9-9-1) made 20 saves in the loss. Anthony Stewart scored a goal and an assist, Chris Chelios and Jason Krog added two assists and Peter Mannino (6-2-0) made 22 saves in the win.

    The teams played to a scoreless first period in which the Aeros managed just four shots on goal. Andrew Kozek put Chicago on the board at 2:12 of the second period with assists from Krog and Stewart. The Wolves extended their lead to 2-0 when Nathan Oystrick's point shot found its way past Khudobin for the eventual game-winning-goal at 14:14, Chelios and Rylan Kaip were credited with the assists.

    The Aeros looked for a third period comeback, but the Wolves struck first with another early goal. Tim Stapleton extended the lead to 3-0 just 19 seconds in with an unassisted goal. Daoust answered for Houston at 6:44 when he knocked a centering pass from Chad Rau out of mid-air and past Mannino, Jaime Sifers was also credited with an assist on the goal.

    Houston received a power-play when Noah Welch took a Delay of Game penalty at 10:18, but it was Joey Crabb scoring short-handed to extend the lead to 4-1 and end the Aeros comeback hopes. Stewart scored an empty net goal at 17:05 to finish the scoring for Chicago.

    Chicago out-shot Houston 25-23 on the night. Houston was 0-for-3 on the power-play while the Wolves finished 0-for-2.

    The Aeros continue the three-game road trip tomorrow in Rockford, 7:05 PM at Rockford Metro Centre. Houston finishes the trip Friday with a New Year's Day game at Milwaukee before returning home Sunday to host Abbotsford, 4:05 PM at Toyota Center.
