AEROS CLOSE OUT 2009-10 SEASON IN SAN ANTONIO WITH SUNDAY MATINEE

HOUSTON - C Andy Hilbert (1-1=2) and RW J-M Daoust (0-2=2) each registered multi-point games as the Houston Aeros (34-33-7-5) defeated the Texas Stars (46-27-3-4) 4-2 in front of 8,508 for their 2009-10 home finale at Toyota Center Saturday night. G Anton Khudobin made 18 saves improving his record to 14-18-4 while G Richard Bachman stopped 39 of 42 to get saddled with the loss.

BOXSCORE

The two clubs played to a scoreless opening frame where the main fireworks came at the 18:56 mark when LW Matt Kassian and LW Luke Gazdic dropped the gloves. The Stars failed to score on the period’s only power play and Houston held the advantage in shots on goal 9-8.

The Aeros put up a season high 24 shots on net in the second period, one shy of the club record. At 9:08 one of those shots found the twine when Hilbert and Daoust worked a 2-on-1 break. Hilbert dished to Daoust at the top of the crease who had his shot batted away, but Hilbert cleaned up the mess for his eighth of the season.

The Stars took control early in the third period. C Warren Peters tied the game at 4:00 when he stick-handled his way to the top of the crease before beating Khudobin blocker-side for a power play goal. Texas took the lead 1:43 later off the stick of RW Raymond Sawada off helpers from D Andrew Hutchinson and Peters.

The Aeros knotted the game at 13:08 when D Justin Falk sent a slap pass backdoor to the tape of C Nathan Smith who banged it past Bachman for his 14th of the year. RW Carson McMillan netted the eventual game-winner at 15:55 tipping home a D Jamie Fraser slap shot and RW Danny Irmen added an empty-net goal at 19:36.

The Aeros tied a season-high in shots on goal outshooting Texas 43-20. Houston went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Texas scored once on the man advantage to go 1-for-5 on the night. With the victory, the Aeros closed out their first season series 4-7-1-0 with the expansion Texas Stars and secured at least a .500 record for 2009-10.
