KHUDOBIN STOPS CAREER-HIGH 52 SHOTS ON GOAL

SAN ANTONIO - The Houston Aeros (34-34-7-5) dropped the season finale 3-2 to the San Antonio Rampage (36-32-5-7) thanks to C Gavin Morgan’s empty-net game-winner with 19 seconds remaining in regulation in front of 7,069 at AT&T Center Sunday afternoon. C Andy Hilbert finished the season on a three-game goal streak with a third period power play marker and G Anton Khudobin made a career-high 52 saves in the loss. G Josh Tordjman saved 24 of 26 shots faced to earn the victory.

BOXSCORE

The Aeros entered the game having scored first in all four of their April wins as they beat the Rampage to the board at the 14:51 mark. D Ryan Gunderson slipped a pass to C Peter Zingoni who wheeled and fired a shot into the chest of Tordjman. Zingoni then charged the net and slammed the rebound through the wickets of the San Antonio goaltender for his eighth of the season.

The Aeros gave up a franchise record 27 shots on goal in the middle session allowing the game-tying marker 5:50 into the period. RW Mikkel Boedker uncorked a slap shot from the right cirlce that rebounded out to the high slot where C Kyle Turris followed up with a one-timer for his 24th of the campaign.

The Aeros retook the lead with a power play goal 12:21 into the final period when Hilbert scored his ninth of the year off helpers from D Maxim Noreau and Gunderson. The Rampage would answer, however, with just 49.7 seconds left in regulation. LW Jeff Hoggan sent a backhander on net that Khudobin had trouble handling as the puck found it’s way to the back of the cage.

Head coach Kevin Constantine then pulled Khudobin since the Aeros needed a regulation win to move out of the West Divison cellar. Unfortunately for Houston, Morgan netted the empty-net game-winner at 19:41 to seal the win for San Antonio.

The Aeros gave up a franchise record 55 shots on goal to their 26. Houston scored both their goals on the man advantage finishing the afternoon 2-for-4 while their penalty kill went a perfect 4-for-4. The Aeros finished the season with a 7-3-1-1 mark against the Rampage and fell to 13-2-0-1 in season finales.
