HOUSTON AEROS FALL 4-2 AT HOME TO TEXAS
Aeros Play at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at San Antonio
Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros (5-5-1-2, 13 points) were defeated by the Texas Stars (4-6-0-1, 9 points) 4-2 on Sunday in front of 4,417 fans at Toyota Center. Four different forwards lit the lamp for the Stars, helping Texas end its four-game winless skid (0-3-0-1). Cody Eakin, Tomas Vincour, Travis Morin and Antoine Roussel each scored for Texas, as the Stars picked up their first win of the season over Houston. Texas goalie Christopher Nilstorp (1-4-0) stopped 26 of 28 for the win. Aeros forwards Jason Zucker and Kris Foucault each scored in the defeat, as Houston fell to 0-2-0-2 in the last four games. Defenseman Chay Genoway added two assists, as the Aeros dropped to 2-3-1-2 at home this season. Houston goalie Darcy Kuemper (3-2-0) stopped 21 of 25 in the defeat. Houston will play on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in San Antonio with the Rampage at AT&T Center.
Texas jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:41 into the first period, as Cody Eakin scored his sixth goal of the season. Goalie Christopher Nilstorp and defenseman Cam Barker each had an assist on the power-play goal that gave Houston a 1-0 lead. The Stars expanded their lead to 2-0 at 9:03 behind Tomas Vincour’s third tally of the season. Forward Reilly Smith and defenseman Brenden Dillon each had an assist on the play. Houston used a power play to cut the Texas lead in half at 2-1. Winger Kris Foucault jammed in a rebound at 11:44, Forward Justin Fontaine and defenseman Chay Genoway each had an assist on Foucault’s third goal of the season. Texas closed out the first period with its third goal of the evening. Center Travis Morin redirected a point shot by Jamie Oleksiak for the 3-1 lead. Right wing Colton Sceviour added an assist on Morin’s third goal of the season.
Houston pulled within a goal at 11:50 of the second period. Right wing Jason Zucker accepted a pass from Johan Larsson in front of the Texas net. Zucker turned and fired his fifth goal of the season past Nilstorp for the 3-2 deficit.
Texas added one more goal in the third period for the 4-2 final. Forward Antoine Roussel potted his second goal of the season, a rebound off a scramble in front of the Houston net at 2:19 of the third period.
The Aeros will hit the road for three of their next four games, starting Tuesday at San Antonio. The Rampage will host the Aeros for a School Field Trip game at 10:30 a.m. at AT&T Center. Houston will play in Rockford on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7:05 p.m. and then venture to St. Paul, MN. The Aeros will host the Rockford Ice Hogs at the Xcel Energy Center, home of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 5:05 p.m. Prior to returning to home ice, the Aeros will play in San Antonio on Friday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Houston will host the Abbotsford Heat on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 5:05 p.m.
