HOUSTON AEROS SOAR PAST RAMPAGE WITH A 7-5 WIN
Zucker Leads the Charge with Four Points

San Antonio, TX – The Houston Aeros (6-5-1-2, 15 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (4-6-0-1, 9 points) 7-5 on Tuesday in front of 10,739 fans at AT&T Center.  Aeros rookie Jason Zucker, scored twice and set up two others, helping Houston outlast San Antonio on School Field Trip Day. Center David McIntyre added two goals, as the Aeros ended a four-game winless skid (0-2-0-2). Winger Justin Fontaine and Nick Palmieri each had a pair of assists in the win. Aeros forwards Johan Larsson and Brett Bulmer, as well as defenseman Tyler Cuma, also scored, as the team improved to 4-2-0-0 on the road this season. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (3-4-2) stopped 21 of 26 for the victory, as San Antonio goalie Dov Grumet-Morris (2-3-1) made 23 saves in the defeat. Houston will play on Friday at 7:05 p.m. in Rockford with the Ice Hogs.

The Aeros had one of their better opening periods all season long, outshooting the Rampage 13-2 In the first period. Houston claimed a 1-0 with the game’s opening goal at 7:45 of the first period. Center David McIntyre scored his third goal of the season, finishing off a centering feed from Nick Palmieri for the 1-0 lead. The Rampage countered at 10:30, as defenseman Alex Petrovic scored off a rebound. Jared Gomes and John McFarland each had an assist on the play, helping San Antonio tie the game 1-1. Houston pushed back in front at 11:19 behind Brett Bulmer’s first goal of the season. The Aeros winger blocked down a clearing attempt at the blueline and fired a shot to the Rampage net. Bulmer’s unassisted goal made it 2-1 Houston. Right wing Jason Zucker blasted a slapshot from the high slot at 16:45, connecting for his sixth goal of the season. Defenseman Marco Scandella and right wing Justin Fontaine each had an assist on the five-on-three power-play goal, giving Houston a 3-1 lead.

The scoring continued for both teams in the second period, as the two clubs combined for four more goals. The Rampage connected for the first two, pulling even with the Aeros at 3-3 midway through the period. San Antonio’s Jon Rheault connected for a shorthanded goal at 1:54 of the middle frame, trimming the Houston lead to 3-2. The Rampage tied the game 3-3 at 10:29, as Casey Wellman (former Aero) scored his second goal of the year off a feed from James Wright. Houston countered at 13:07, pushing back in front behind Tyler Cuma’s first goal of the season. Zucker picked up the assist on the play to put the Aeros in front 4-3. Houston used its power play to move ahead by two goals at 13:40. Johan Larsson finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play, scoring his third goal of the season for the 5-3 lead. Zucker and Charlie Coyle each had an assist on the play.

The Rampage opened up the scoring in the third period at 2:49. Rheault jammed in a rebound for his second goal of the day, his fifth of the season. James Wright and Drew Shore each had an assist on the play that pulled the Rampage within a goal at 5-4. Houston regained its two-goal lead with an even-strength goal at 6:54. Palmieri and Justin Fontaine cycled the puck in the Rampage zone, finding McIntyre in front of the net. He buried his second goal of the night, fourth goal of the season, for the 6-4 Houston lead. The Aeros tacked on their seventh goal of the day at 15:05, the third power-play goal of the game. Zucker finished off a back-door pass from Larsson, scoring his second of the game and seventh of the season.  Defenseman Steven Kampfer added an assist on the play for the 7-4 lead.  San Antonio tallied the final goal of the night at 18:27, a shorthanded tally by Quinton Howden for the 7-5 final.
