PEORIA ENDS HOUSTON AEROS STREAK
Aeros Set For Kids Game on Tuesday at 11:05 a.m.
Houston, TX – The Houston Aeros (12-7-1-2, 27 points) were defeated by the Peoria Rivermen (8-11-2-2, 20 points) 3-2 on Sunday night in front of 4,813 fans at Toyota Center. Rivermen forward Andrew Murray scored once and added an assist, as Peoria ended Houston’s six-game winning streak. Peoria goalie Mike McKenna (3-3-0) stopped 30 of 32 in the victory, which also ended the Aeros five-game winning streak on home ice. Peoria’s Phil McRae also scored a goal and added an assist in the road win. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (9-6-2) suffered his first loss since Nov. 16 at Rockford, finishing with 21 saves on the night. Aeros Charlie Coyle and Chay Genoway each scored in the loss, as Houston fell to 6-4-1-2 at home this season. Houston will play against the San Antonio Rampage on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 11:05 a.m. at Toyota Center.
For the seventh straight game, Houston jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 4:40. Defenseman Chay Genoway found a rebound in the Rivermen crease and flipped it past goalie Mike McKenna. Forwards Johan Larsson and Kris Foucault each had an assist on the play. Peoria answered with a pair of goals, starting with Phil McRae’s power-play tally at 10:16. Mark Cundari and Brent Regner each had an assist on McRae’s fifth goal of the season. The Rivermen moved in front at 12:20 of the opening frame, taking a 2-1 lead as Jaden Schwartz knocked in a rebound for his eighth goal of the season. McRae and Andrew Murray each added an assist on Schwartz’s tally.
After a scoreless second period of play, Peoria extended its lead to 3-1 just 43 seconds into the third period. Murray picked off a puck at the Houston blueline and raced in alone on Matt Hackett. Murray put in his own rebound for his second goal of the season. Houston pulled within a goal at 3-2 after Charlie Coyle snapped his eighth goal of the season past McKenna. Jason Zucker added an assist on the goal at 9:01.
The Aeros remain on home ice this Tuesday with the School Field Trip game. Houston will host San Antonio at 11:05 a.m. as part of the annual Kids game. The Aeros will play a pair of games in Charlotte this Friday and Saturday, prior to returning home on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 5:05 p.m. to host Oklahoma City. On Dec. 16, Houston will hold its yearly Teddy Bear Toss for charity. Fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to throw on the ice once the Aeros score their first goal of the night. Every Sunday throughout the season is Family Day, where fans may purchase four tickets, parking and four Aeros prizes starting at $54.
