Beat Writing/Communications Internship

Internship Position Summary: This part-time unpaid internship assists the Communication team with eMedia communications creating story ideas and writing related team content for the website. This is an excellent opportunity for current students seeking an internship opportunity geared towards hands-n experience in sports with special focus on providing beat writing experience much of will made available on zamchron.com website. This part- time internship can be applied as academic credit towards a major or degree program, and is an excellent learning opportunity for current students seeking a communications or journalism internship within an exceptional sports organization. Candidates should be reliable, flexible, passionate and willing to work independently within a team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible for writing content for www.zamchron.com including game stories, blog entries, and weekly feature stories of players, coaches and members of the Aeros organization
• Provided access to interview players and coaches after practices, games and over the phone as set up through Communications Manager to help provide opportunity for unique insights into the team , players and staff
• Responsible for writing and submitting one or more feature stories per week
• Responsible for developing and creating ideas for feature game or related stories
• Assist with uploading stories and media content such as photos, audio, and video to the website
• Creating new ideas and presenting recommendations to improve zamchron.com
• Other duties or projects as assigned

Skill and Qualifications

• Current college student in junior or senior year, or current graduate student
• Degree program with major or emphasis in journalism, communications, broadcasting or related field
• Excellent communication skills with demonstrated writing ability
• Ability for developing, creating and developing story ideas
• Strong knowledge of the game of hockey and follows high-school, amateur, collegiate or professional level
• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work well independently within a team and results oriented environment
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with ability to successfully prioritize and handle multiple projects or assignments
• Proficient computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint; experience with layout software such as Quark Xpress or Adobe InDesign preferred
• Must be available evenings, weekends and holidays to cover majority of home games as well as some practices
• Available for part-time internship September through May 2010

Houston Aeros Charities Internship


Houston Aeros Charities' (HAC) goal is to make an internship equally beneficial to the intern and the organization. HAC interns will work hard and long hours, however, most have found the work to be enjoyable and fulfilling. Past interns have commented that the position is both educational and fun, providing skills and training for students wishing to pursue a career in professional sports or charitable fundraising.  This position provides a memorable opportunity to help many charitable organizations throughout the Houston area.  Daily activities vary.

An Intern with Houston Aeros Charities will be responsible for (though not limited to) the following:

* Assisting in preparations for fundraising events
* Assisting with game day activities such as charitable drives (toy drives,
canned good drives, blood drives) or events taking place during the
games (auctions, promotions)
    * Responding to requests for donations
    * Creating databases in conjunction with fundraising activities

Internships with Houston Aeros Charities are for school credit and are unpaid.
